BES Canned Food Drive
As a Principal Resident, I assisted our school counselor with a Canned Food Drive in November. Benson Elementary School partnered with Benson Area Ministerial Association (BAMA), an organization with a food pantry that offers support to approximately 300 families in the Benson community each month. Each day of our Canned Food Drive, we collected and boxed food items from classrooms all over the school for BAMA to pick up. We collected over 5,000 non-perishable food items during this event.
School leaders must be actively involved in the communities in which they serve. Schools should seek opportunities to form partnerships with local businesses and organizations. |
Testing Coordinator
As a Principal Resident, I served as the Testing Coordinator, which involved overseeing school-wide administration of all state and district level testing. This role required thoughtful and proactive planning to ensure all rules and regulations were followed. I attended several district training sessions to learn the proper procedures and security measures associated with each test, including but not limited to: Beginning-of-Grade, CogAT, NC Check-Ins, Read to Achieve, ACCESS, and End-of-Grade. I also trained the staff to serve as Test Administrators and/or proctors for each test.
In this role, I learned the value of staying organized and keeping all of my testing materials in a binder. In addition, I discovered how to strategically and effectively use the human capital resources within the building to minimize interruptions to instructional time during testing periods and get testing completed in a timely manner. |
