Biography
Sarah Cowell earned her Bachelor of Science in Middle Grades Education with concentrations in Language Arts and Social Studies and graduated with honors from North Carolina State University. Sarah was selected as her school’s Outstanding First Year Teacher of the Year in 2010. She has taught all grades in the middle school setting. During her years of teaching, Sarah also served as the co-chair of her English/Language Arts PLC and as the Student Government Association adviser. After seven years in the classroom, Sarah spent two years in a Teaching and Learning Coach position at an elementary school. There, she served as the MTSS coach, led the Curriculum Team, facilitated professional development at the school and district level, and supported teachers in their continued efforts to improve teaching and learning. While in the coaching role, Sarah was nominated as the Johnston County Public Schools Support Personnel of the Year. Sarah is currently completing her Masters of School Administration in the Johnston Principal Leadership Academy at North Carolina State University. Sarah served as a Principal Resident at Benson Elementary School during the 2019-2020 school year.
When she is not working or attending school, Sarah enjoys spending time with her family, watching NC State football, reading, and shopping for antiques. She has been married to her husband, Tim, for eight years and they have one son, Easton, who is five and will start kindergarten in the fall. Their family also includes a five pound malti-poo named Daisy. Sarah is proud to live and serve in the Johnston County Public Schools district.
